Pine Shores Presbyterian Church: A Welcoming Presence in Sarasota

As Pine Shores Presbyterian Church celebrates its 75th anniversary, the congregation continues to build on a longstanding commitment to faith, inclusion, service, and community connection. Located on a beautiful campus tucked within a residential area of Sarasota, the church offers a welcoming space for people of all ages and identities to explore faith, develop meaningful relationships, and participate in the life of the congregation.

A Legacy of Faith and Inclusion

Throughout its history, Pine Shores Presbyterian Church has played a role in the growth of the local faith community, including helping establish two other churches in the Sarasota area.

The congregation follows Jesus with open hearts and embraces a fully inclusive approach to worship, participation, and leadership. People of all ages and identities are welcomed into the church community, with opportunities to take part in both its ministries and leadership.

At the heart of Pine Shores’ mission is a desire to make room for exploration, grace, acceptance, and continued growth toward Christ-like living. The church recognizes that faith is a journey and seeks to create an environment where individuals can ask questions, deepen their understanding, and feel supported along the way.

Serving the Sarasota Community

Community service is an important part of Pine Shores Presbyterian Church’s identity. Over the years, the congregation has provided shelter to mothers, supported Meals on Wheels, and partnered with two organizations serving farmworkers in the region.

The church also offers programs designed to support children and families, including a Wednesday afternoon after-school program and a summer camp program. These activities provide opportunities for learning, connection, and community engagement beyond traditional worship services.

Pine Shores also hosts a community sunrise service on Siesta Key, bringing people together in a meaningful shared experience within one of Sarasota’s best-known natural settings.

Supporting Older Adults and Seniors

Pine Shores Presbyterian Church has a notable connection to Sarasota’s senior community through its role in founding Bay Village of Sarasota, a retirement community serving older adults. This connection reflects the congregation’s longstanding interest in supporting individuals as they navigate different stages of life.

Within the church itself, older adults can participate in a variety of social, educational, and fellowship opportunities. A weekly breakfast group offers time for conversation and connection, while a monthly book club provides an opportunity to explore ideas and enjoy discussion with others. A monthly women’s group also creates space for fellowship and shared experiences.

These gatherings help foster relationships and provide regular opportunities for members to remain engaged with one another.

Music, Fellowship, and Community Life

In addition to its worship services and ongoing programs, Pine Shores Presbyterian Church offers an outdoor concert series during Sarasota’s high season. The series brings a cultural and social dimension to the church’s activities, welcoming people to gather around music and community.

Fellowship is also woven into the congregation’s weekly rhythm. Following worship, members and visitors are invited to stay for coffee hour - a simple but meaningful opportunity to meet others, continue conversations, and build a sense of belonging.

For many people, these informal moments can be just as important as organized programs in helping a congregation feel welcoming and connected.

A Community Waiting to Be Discovered

Although the congregation has a large and beautiful campus, it is situated within a residential area and is not visible from a major roadway.

Its location may make it something of a hidden gem in the Sarasota community, but the church’s doors are open to those seeking a welcoming place to worship, explore faith, connect with others, and participate in service.

As Pine Shores Presbyterian Church marks its 75th anniversary, its continued focus on inclusion, fellowship, community service, and support for people of all generations remains central to its identity.

Special Thanks

Special thanks to Rev. Bill Sitterley, Interim Pastor of Pine Shores Presbyterian Church, for sharing information about the congregation’s history, ministries, community partnerships, and opportunities for fellowship.
